The Right Honourable William Lyon Mackenzie King, Prime Minister of Canada, said in a radio address, August 2, 1935, while campaigning to become Prime Minister:

"Until the control of the issue of currency and credit is restored to government and recognized as its most conspicuous and sacred responsibility, all talk of the sovereignty of Parliament and of democracy is idle and futile."

This website is dedicated to promoting an understanding and acknowledgement of why that responsibility is indispensible to democracy.

As PM King notes in the quote above, until such control is returned to the Federal Government, through the use of the Bank of Canada, we will never have the money to do what needs to be done- on behalf of the interests of the Citizens of Canada.

Gerald Gratton McGeer, a great forgotten Canadian Hero.
McGeer became the Great Persuader of Liberal Party leader Mackenzie King.

He granted King no peace until he nationalized the Bank of Canada in 1938 by buying out the shareholders.

The Committee on Monetary and Economic Reform (COMER) was formed in the mid-eighties to address these issues; as was the Canadian Action Party in 1997.

The Bank of Canada

1938-1973: on behalf of the interests of the Citizens of Canada

From 1938-73 the Bank of Canada fullfilled its mandate: it helped get Canada out of the Great Depression; helped finance the War years; and assisted in building Canada's hysical and social infrastructures through the 50s and 60s- without causing inflation. The video below shows how money may be created by the Bank of Canada.

1974-Today: on behalf of the interests of financial institutions

Beginning in 1974, growing pressure from financial lobbyists resulted in a reduction of the use of the Bank of Canada's powers; and a shift of control of those powers over to dometic and foreign financial interests.
